A growing CPA firm specializing in providing comprehensive tax, assurance, and advisory services to a diverse Japanese client base, is seeking the Senior Tax Associate. The position will leverage their technical expertise to manage complex compliance engagements, conduct strategic tax research, and begin to develop strong, consultative relationships with clients. This role is a remote, but requires the candidate to be a resident of California to effectively service their specific client needs and adhere to state-specific regulations. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT NOT ARE LIMITED TO:
Tax Compliance & Review: Prepare and meticulously review complex federal and state income tax returns for various entity types, including S-Corporations, Partnerships, C-Corporations, and High-Net-Worth Individuals.
Engagement Management: Manage the workflow of multiple tax engagements simultaneously, ensuring all internal and external deadlines are met in a timely and accurate manner.
Client Consultation: Serve as a primary point of contact for clients on routine tax matters, proactively communicating filing requirements, data requests, and technical positions.
Technical Research: Conduct in-depth research on complex state and federal tax issues, drafting clear, concise technical memos to document findings and support compliance positions.
Mentorship: Supervise, train, and mentor junior tax staff, providing constructive feedback on their workpapers and returns to foster their professional growth.
Tax Planning: Assist Managers and Partners with year-end tax planning and projections for clients to identify potential tax savings opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of three (3) years of progressive tax preparation and review experience.
Active CPA license or demonstrated progress toward obtaining the license (e.g., completion of some CPA exam sections).
Advanced proficiency in professional tax preparation software, Microsoft Excel, and related accounting technologies.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
Current California residency required for the duration of employment.
Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively, with strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
Ability to travel approximately once per month (2–3 days as needed).
